Episode #028 Understanding Premature Ejaculation

It’s not uncommon for men to be worried about how long they should last in bed. It really has become a pop culture joke and “burn” to insult someone on how long they can last in bed. Popular shows like “Friends” and “How I Met Your Mother” frequently jab at male performance in bed. With mainstream media making premature ejaculation the but of sex jokes, it’s a normal reaction for men to ask themselves “Do I have that problem??”

I frequently hear from men asking me “how long should I last in bed” or “I only can last for a couple of minutes with my partner. I think I have premature ejaculation.” For some of these men, they do meet criteria for a PE diagnosis and others don’t. For this reason I decided it was time for an episode to help put these questions to rest. Thank heaven we have a certified sex therapist who has many years working with men and these issues. Shannon Hickman is our expert on the show today.

Shannon Hickman is a certified sex therapist who has extensive experiences working with men in therapy who deal with premature ejaculation. Today Shannon speaks with Braxton Dutson about what symptoms constitute a diagnosis of premature ejaculation. They explore some of the issues that can contribute to premature ejaculation. Shannon also gives practical exercises that can be used to address symptoms of premature ejaculation.

This episode is not meant to diagnose or be used to treat premature ejaculation. If you feel you or a loved one needs support dealing with premature ejaculation seek support from your doctor and a mental health professional for specific help in your situation.
